Noah Llewellyn

Noah Llewellyn had a zest for life and was known for his sharp, cutting wit.  He never followed the crowd and was confident in his own opinions, never hesitating to voice them.  He was a great student and loved sports, especially hockey.  He was actively involved with the Bedford Hockey Association for most of his life. He started playing hockey at age 6 and loved it with a passion.  He played recreational and competitive hockey and made many friends and cherished memories along the way.  In his first year of Atom, he played in this very Christmas tournament and was elated when his team won gold! He went on to play Atom A hockey the next year, Peewee B, Recreational Peewee, Bantam C and Recreational Bantam.

In January 2012, Noah was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. At 11 years old, he faced the fight of his life.  He showed us all what true courage and bravery truly means in his determination to live his life fiercely and on his own terms despite cancer.  He stepped back into recreational hockey just months after completing his first round of treatments.  It was grueling, but he was determined to play the game he loved.   After multiple relapses, Noah ran out of treatment options. He died surrounded by family on December 7, 2014, at the young age of 14. He will always be our hero.

We have many wonderful memories of the Bedford Minor Hockey Association during Noah’s hockey years and the amazing players and families that we were privileged to play with. We have set up a Facebook page to help raise awareness and research funds to help find a cure for Ewing sarcoma. It also serves as a means for us to keep Noah’s memory alive. After Noah died we were determined to continue fighting to help find a cure for childhood cancer.  We were shocked to learn that less than 4 cents of every dollar donated to cancer research goes to research for ALL forms of childhood cancer! After much research, Dawn connected with the Ewings Cancer Foundation of Canada (ECFC). This charitable foundation was set up by another mom who lost her son to Ewing sarcoma. ECFC is run by volunteers and families whose children have been affected by Ewing sarcoma. They offer support through advocacy and much needed funding for Ewing sarcoma specific research happening right here in Canada. Together, we can all help find a cure for Ewing sarcoma!  For more information on the amazing work being done by the ECFC, please visit their website at www.ewingscancer.ca

Thanks to all,

Dawn and Scott Llewellyn
